About the event
Many governments have identified improved use of data as key to better public services. The UK government’s Declaration on Government Reform – which aims to harness innovations form the coronavirus pandemic into day-to-day policy making – highlighted the need to “put data at the heart of our decision-making, learning explicitly from the approach we have taken in responding to COVID-19”. Innovations include a presumption in favour of openness, a requirement to share data across departments, data inventories to ensure government knows what data exists, where it is stored, and how it can be accessed, and increased use of data visualisation to help ministers and officials understand in real time the latest evidence underpinning decisions.
Hosted by Simon Case, Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Civil Service, Public Service Data Live brought together UK civil servants to focus on the better use of data. Sharing insights, experience and specific examples, this annual gathering will stimulate debate and provide practical examples to improve how data is used across government.
Public Sector Data Live was the inaugural event for the One Big Thing initiative, focusing on data upskilling. The event brought together those colleagues from across government whose focus is in implementing, encouraging and improving the use of data.
At its heart, Public Service Data Live is designed to support and help strengthen the data community.
Public Service Data Live was free to attend for public servants who are involved in transforming, digitising and accelerating their organisations and services.
